Default Bandscope : What can I use it for?

What purpose does it serve ?
I am buying a Icom R20 and the literature says the bandscope allows you to see the signal.
Is it really useful for everyday listening ?

Thanks

It would allow you to see adjacent signals to the current one you're listening to.
If you wanted to.
