I have had mine since 2000, and like for certain things.

1. Picks up Mil-Air well.
2. Picks up VHF-HI very well. (I listen to RR also)
3. Picks up FM broadcast band VERY well.

Dislikes
1. Kind of a steep learning curve----truly unlike other "scanners". (although, if you have used ICOM pr
oducts before---you will probalby have no problem).
2. Only battery power---no DC.
3. SLOW scan speed----as it says on the case "communications receiver", not truly a scanner.
4. inabilty to search more than one range at a time.

That said though, it is one sturdy little radio----I have NEVER had a problem with mine in 9+ years.

Hope that helps a little, Mike

I have 5 R-2s and use them regularly. As a news reporter I need a scanner that I can depend on and the R-2 is one of those that I use along with uniden, GRE500, radio shack.
But I have more of the R-2s and they work fine.
Easier to program than the GRE
