Default PCR-1500 remote controlled

Hello,

I just got thir PCR-1500 and I thought it would be easy to control the base remotely since there is only one USB connection to the host computer. Well, it is not. At least to me.

First thing I tried was to open a Win Remote Desktop over the internet. Apparently the port(s) are not correctly forwarded from the host to the remote computer and the IC-PCR1500 software does not work in the remote Windows session if one wants to listen to the audio over the internet. Without remote sound support, Remote Desktop allowed me to control the PCR.

Next thing was to open Remote Desktop, leave the sound on the host computer and do a audio card streaming over the internet. After a few attempts that worked ok so I was able to see the control panel in the Remote Desktop and listen to audio in streaming mode. However there is a significant delay (5-10 seconds) between the radio actions (change frequency, change filters etc) and the sound associated. That really bothers.

The last thing I tried tonight was to create a Vitual USB over the network, like an "extension" of the USB cable connecting PCR-1500. That would be the most elegant solution. The remote computer would see the USB port as if was physically connected to that computer so the control software could work locally, with sound and everything. The problem in this case was to find that piece of software to do the USB forwarding over the network. Most of the software is not free and the demo versions are having many limitation. I really liked Remote USB and USB @nywhere but they failed to work correctly to me.

Instead of playing with different configuations I tought I may ask on this Forum if there is a standard solution to listen and control a PCR-1500 remotely, cost effective (free?) and with minimum software required.

Thanks!

The software I use to remote control my PCR-1500 is called PCR-remote. It was created by Jay Bray, (whom, I believe is a member of this site). I'd also look at the ICOM section of the RadioReference wiki as well.
