Default Icom R5 Batteries

Just picked up an R5 and have the AC adapter in the mail, which rechargeable batteries would be preferred to use with this unit? Spec's say Ni-Cd but have read that NiMH 2300mAh work as well (clueless on this subject). Thanks in advance for any advice!

Those 2300mAh NiMH will work just fine, and are preferable to old-tech nicads.

New out of the box, the NiMH batteries will need about 2 - 3 full discharge / charge cycles before you see the maximum capacity out of them. Think of them as "muscles". You have to train them initially.

Depending on your listening habits, you may want to look into "low self-discharge" NiMH batts, like the Sanyo Eneloops, Duracell low-discharge, and others if you don't listen to the R5 on a constant basis.

There are a lot of other battery threads, but this might help you get started.
