I'm not sure if it has the limiting resistor or not - I can say that it will drive a small MFJ-281 communications speaker very well, which surprised me - I wasn't expecting much, but that combo seems to work well and stays small and light. I haven't tried bigger speakers.

I'm not into mil-air that much, but I can say that I have heard it while portable a few times.

My pleasure - although it is always a group effort here - I balked at the RX7 until I saw reviews and comments from other members first.

Like with any Icom receiver, you'll definitely develop a relationship with all the programming, although the menu system really helps. These receivers want to be used often!

Just for the record, the R20 is a entirely different kind of scanner.

In regards to skipping channels with PL, it happened again with the R5. It seems so random so it is driving me nuts, because I can't reproduce the problem once I fix it - until it happens again.

This time, the quick fix was to just open the squelch for a few seconds. Then suddenly the pl decodes in scan mode again.

I'm racking my brain wondering why I'm getting this on BOTH the R5 and RX7 at random times. AHA!

This time, I've taken the squelch out of auto, and used a specific level instead. I'm wondering if the auto-squelch gets confused sometimes.

We'll see....

Smile

thank's for the help. the yaesu vx-6r won out on the battle between it and the icrx7. i just could not see dropping the buck's on the somewhat "iffy" icrx7. the small audio punch was the clincher on the tie breaker.
