Default East Idaho 700 MHz TRS

As pointed out elsewhere in RR, Raytheon will be putting in the 700 MHz TRS in East Idaho.

I was under the impression it was close to being operational. Does anyone know the current status?

Of course Bannock and Bingham Counties are operational now, so this new announcement only applies to Fremont, Madison, Jefferson, Bonneville and Clark counties. That announcement is pretty recent since is was dated 16 October 2008. Teton Communications was listed as the prime contractor and they have a long history and wide exposure in business and public safety communications in this part of the state, so things might proceed as fast as procurement of equipment can be accomplished.

However, the only 700 MHz applications submitted to or approved by the FCC are for Bonneville County and he only new operational 700 MHz transmitters so far are in Bonneville Cnty. But there has been no testing activity, that I am aware of, in Bonneville County for 4 or 5 months and the transmitters have been shut down.

The planned intertie with the legacy system frequencies might speed things up, but I would be surprised if anything is up and operating before next spring, but that's just a guess on my part
