These licenses are P25 & they are hiring a 911 Coordinator/Technical Systems Specialist. I searched their website for city council items with negative results. The county site has no search facility.


Part of the job description for 911 coordinator is: 'Under the direction of the Public Safety Communications Manager, plan, administer and coordinate the 9-1-1 and public safety radio communications technology for the City of Lewiston and Nez Perce County.'

Interesting, since the whole state has been UHF for years, then the IMARS program came along....

After doing a little checking I have noticed that several other new licenses have been issued in the vhf hi 150 MHz band to PD/SO in Latah, Clearwater, Lewis, Nez Perce and Shoshone Counties. Some of these are listed in the database as multidispatch. Some of these licenses were applied for several years ago, but just granted in the last several months based on completion of construction.

I know some people had questioned how well 700 MHz would work in N. Idaho due to terrain issues, but I haven't heard anything recently. There could be a 150 MHZ P25 system similar the Wyoming's Wyolink system and then meshed with IIMARS 700.

Has anyone heard anything about a multiagency dispatch center being set up in N. Idaho?

Thunderbolt, if you read this, I believe you added most of these new frequencies to the database. If you remember, how did you determine some of these were multidispatch?

This was based on some information received from two 9-1-1 dispatchers who work in that area. They wished to remain anonymous, and I will keep it that way. That being said, they did indicate that their counties wanted to implement a backup radio system for when they migrate to the IIMARS TRS. They feel that its a not only a good idea to implement such a system, but it can be used in the event of coverage problems in certain areas that might not be friendly to the 700/800 MHz bands.

They explained that there is no one user for these frequencies, but they maybe shared by various public safety and county government agencies. This would mean that these repeaters could be used by EMS, police, fire, and Emergency Mgmt. users across the county. Think of this as sort of a shared repeater arrangement.

From my location in Cache Valley Utah, (Logan etc) I hear the IIMARS system quite well - well up into Bingham COunty thru the Lava repeater. Coverage is very good - the "hollow" P25 700 MHz sound is unmistakable, and the IHP folks are pleased with the coverage.

Are you using an outside antenna to hear IIMARS from Logan? I can't hear the Lava site (Sedgewick Pk) from where I am in Idaho Falls, but some of the Bingham and Bannock TG's are being multicast on several sites in those two counties, apparently including Sedgewick Pk. From listening while I was traveling on I15 into Utah the coverage from the Lava site seemed to drop off south of Malad.

Bingham TG's as well as Bannock SO & Pocatello Fire are also being multicast on the new Idaho Falls site. The Kinport Pk. site was recently added to improve coverage in the Bannock County area south of Pocatello.
