Default Anyone in Boise with a Uniden BCD396XT?

I just ordered the 396XT and was wondering if anyone would let me clone their frequencies.

Thanks,

Jeff

Cool

Jeff,

I have a 396T and I'm just visiting for the 4th of July weekend. It's very easy to program the scanner manually, but I understand about the cloning... it's quick and easy.

Have you tried it on the 700mhz system yet? I'm curious if it sounds better than the 396T? Mine sounds a bit funky... it's slow to pick up signals at times...

Default Bcd396xt

Nick,

I received my 396xt and was able to use my mac and freescan, running XP, with the parallels emulator, to program my scanner. The whole process was a learning experience in computer hardware, software and inter-platform compatibility.

I have been listening to the 700 Mhz channels with no problems so far. They sound crystal clear and I can even hear the in-field units on the other side of the valley. Before I could usually only hear the dispatch side unless the field units were close.

It looks like Canyon County will be switching to 700 Mhz soon. I see the licenses have been issued.

I am disappointed that Boise Police are encrypting all of their channels except the main dispatch channel. Oh, well.

I have spoken to some of the firemen in the know and it doesn't look like the local fire departments will go digital anytime soon. Apparently the vocorders that digitize voices don't work well in high noise environments such as fire fighting. Their opinion is that the digital system is a potential safety problem if one of the fire fighters tries to call for help and can't get the digital system to work. However the old analog frequencies are currently tied into the digital trunked system.

Cool

Yeah this is the only true P25 system I get to monitor on a frequent basis. Up in Seattle, we don't have any public safety on full digital yet. So it's hard to know what P25 should sound like...

The 700mhz system sounds fine on my 396T as well. The encryption of most of the TAC channels takes some of the excitement out of scanning though.

Have you compiled your own talkgroup listing? I noticed the one up on RR isn't up-to-date. I'll submit my official listing in the next couple of days.

Here's my current listing (I'm only monitoring Ada county for now

**The one curious one is 1200... it's encrypted.. but no clue what it is... it's quite active last couple of days.

Cool Boise Fire Update

Busy night on the 4th here in Boise. I finally figured out the talkgroups - or at least the most active groups.
I think the lesson learned is that if you only want to monitor fire then use a VHF scanner.

Although I didn't use the preloaded file, I did look at it and it contained what was what was in the RR database at the time. I think the sites and control channels are still the same, although some TGs may be different. Use what is preloaded and just scan using the ID Search Mode and you should be OK.

Thanks, looks like I'll be living in the boise area at least for a year or so and have never delt with a digital system. I guess this will be a good time to learn, but having it preloaded will at least get me up and running until I learn to program it, now I just gotta save a little more.
