Bureau County and StarCom

The Bureau County Sheriff's Department was heard today on StarCom21 TG 20 (ID'd as a Motorola radio testing TG) performing radio checks throughout the county. Dispatch and a county car were heard discussing signal readability. This could be an early sign that the BCSD is considering migrating from their current VHF system to StarCom. I'll look into this further and report back.

I believe what you were hearing was the sheriff's department checking the radios the state issued for interoperability and crossover communication. The recent re-banding has the tec.'s checking all radios in the system.

As of now the Bureau County Sheriff's department has no intention of going to STARCOM.

That makes sense. Depending on where they are at in the county, they could be using one of 4 towers. Thanks for providing the other angle!
