List of definitions?

I hope this doesn't come across as a "newbie" type of question, as I've been into scanning for many years, but I was just wondering if the was a "central list," so to speak, of definitions used in the Illinois / Chicago area of the database. I'll use ISPERN for example. I've seen it used in the database, but haven't got a clue as to what agency it represents.

Thanks in advance for helping me out of my "duh" state of ignorance.
