Default CPD Radio Make?

I am just wondering what kind of Portables Chicago PD uses?
I like the audio on them...

I've heard some talk about "short stem" (Moto EX500?) radios being used by CPD. Is this true?

That photo looks like it could have been taken in 018 or 023 near the Zoo. 019 would be too far away since that is farther down. That little radio may not be a good idea. Foot chase followed by a struggle to apprehend the offender = "Hey, Sarge, I can't find my radio!"

"Anyone see a radio on the scene?"

Solid max signal 45 miles out WITH obstructions? Are you serious?

Default No way is that an assigned radio

No way is that an assigned radio, that's got to be somebody's personnel equipment or special assignment type radio deal. That he might be assigned to, carnival, school, etc

Looks like a Motorola BPR40...

Probably from a rental company or owned by whatever property/function the officer is at. Very common especially at the Air & Water show, and Taste of Chicago.

I'm the officer in the picture. It is in the 018th District @ Belden/Lincoln Park West. The radio is the BlackBox Radio. It's cheap in price but the quality is very good for the price. The XTS Motorola radios we use work well but the batteries the city buys are bad. They do not last the full tour of duty & sometimes go dead after a couple of hours. Hence, I bought a cheap radio that is very dependable, takes a lot of abuse (comparable to a GP300 but smaller & lighter), and the battery usually lasts for 2 tours of duty before I have to recharge it. The 1841 in my user name is the beat car I work on the day shift (2nd Watch).
