Default Boone County

I live in Loves Park/Machesney Park area and I cannot seem to pick up Boone County. The site radius is about 30 miles. I am closer than 30 miles and yet I get nothing at all. I used to get the analog from Boone just fine. Has anyone else encountered this problem? Also, I cannot seem to get McHenry either. Is this problem related?

you should be able to use Rockfords freq 851.41250 to pick up Boone. I get them on Belvidere freq 853.33750 and rockfords site. Hope this helps

Since they switched to StarCom21 you might want to try an external antenna. And, after the swicth of the Boone site from a single site to a 2 tower Simulcast, they may have adjusted the directionality of the antennas, further affecting reception from the west.

I didn't realize Boone went to digital.....when did they do that?

I also live in Loves Park, and used to be able to pick Boone up on the scanner. But not recently......that would explain it

Thanks for the replies. I am still experimenting with this 106 every day to learn how to use it. I know another guy with a 106 that lives in Northwest Rockford and he gets Boone County just fine. I live in an apartment, so my antenna options are somewhat limited. Is there any antenna that I could get that would be of use indoors and increase my reception? I have an outdoor Radio Shack antenna I am using indoors now,I bolted it to a pole and a stand. It does much better than the stock antenna on my other scanners. But, I do not have the 106 hooked up to it. I did not think the antenna that is on there now would be good for Digital Reception. Freybearfreakfan, Boone was one of the first local counties to go Digital. I just wish I could here it.

As much as I know, I did not know that, lol. Now that i recall, did Boone County go digital back in 2005 or so? I remember someone around here, was going to go digital, but i never heard if they did. a few years ago.

I'm not sure when they went Digital but it has been a while now. I think it may have been in 2007. I am getting Boone County now. I had to experiment with downloading the Digital Talk Systems and Talk Groups to get it right. I think I am starting to understand how this whole thing works but I know I am still going to have questions. Thank goodness for this site.
