I'm in district ten and they still do severe weather alerts over ISPERN. They might simulcast over ISPERN and Starcom, but I'm not sure.

According to a radio tech over in district 1(sterling) the NOAA severe weather alerts will be broadcast in turn over ISPERN in place of the old 42.5 But I did find out that 42.500 is STILL used for car to car traffic in extreme southern illinois. So that was news. Of course, most fire dept. and county dispatch centers issue these alerts as well.

The ISP policy is to do this over ISPERN, and often they will patch or console simul-select ISPERN to the various Dispatch talkgroups, this along with the regular ISPERN patches account for hearing the broadcasts on different SC21 talkgroups.

As for hearing 42.5 downstate, are you sure that was ISP traffic? AFAIK they removed all the low band radios from the trooper's cars. When I visited the area a couple times this summer there wasn't a peep on 42.5 and all the cars I saw parked at Ullin and Carmi had no low band antennas. I occasionally hear skip on 42.5 from out East, North Carolina, I think, with 173.8 PL.

I'm pretty sure rich, because I didn't understand the tc clearly enough to hear the call sign but I did hear dist.22 which I think is one of the furthermost south. I don't know, but maybe they have a specific reason why they still retain some low band radios?
I thought at first it was skip, but I checked and we had 0 propagation that day.

This was just posted in the Skip fourm. It was heard yesterday. There must be some cars in D12 with lowband radios.

Wow, when was there in that area a couple of times this summer and last I heard nothing on 42.50 at all. I didn't see any low band antennas on any cars as well. Maybe they switched to the base loaded trunk-lip mounts, I presumed the ones of these I saw were high-band gain antennas.

Any base station traffic, or is it all mobile-mobile?

Is there any chance of the old ISP radios being recycled or turned over to another agency down there?
