Rockford Area Starcom

Hi, is there a list somewhere that I can veiw to see who is on Starcom in the Rockford area, would I beable to listen to district chicago from rockford or would that be to far?

As far as I know, the only agencies using Starcom in the immediate Rockford area are:
1. Rockford Police
2. Illinois State Police
3. Boone County Sheriff

As far as picking up Chicago in Rockford, it's too far. You can listen in on some tollway talkgroups (Elgin area, Interstate 290, Interstate 294, etc) using the Winnebago simulcast.

The way these systems work is that a user's radio is set to listen to one or more Talkgroups. This radio then affiliates (handshakes) with the local tower, usually the closest tower but sometimes a neighbor. Any traffic that the user's radio would hear would be broadcast on the tower it is affiliated with.

What does all this mean? Well, you might hear Chicago area cars on a E. Dubuque or Galena tower if there are user radios affiliated with those towers and set to the Chicago area talkgroups.

The summary to all this is that maybe you will but probably you won't...

Download the CARMA Profile at CARMA Profiles, or view the StarCom21 info here at the RR Database. They are the most complete resources to the StarCom21 system available.

Just to clarify a bit, Belvidere Police in Boone Co. are also on Starcom. The Winnebago Co. Sheriff's Office has 4 dozen Starcom portables, primarily for comms with the State Police and Rockford PD, but has kept their VHF analog system installed in their vehicles. Loves Park PD would like to go to Starcom but doesn't have the money needed and no grants are currently available- they remain on VHF analog.

You won't be able to listen to District Chicago here in Rockford. I have them on my scanner and wish I could but only the time I get them is when I'm near Chicago. Sometimes when I'm on the East side of Rockford or near Belvidere I can pick up Lake County and McHenry, some of McHenry are still on analog, who are on StarCom. Might want to give that a try.
