Got another new all-encrypted talkgroup, 4981. I'm guessing another BPD Channel. Not sure why they need so many encrypted channels, but whatever..

I was listen to the online stream during Fools Fest and when there was 10-33 traffic on BPD ch 1, they told them to switch to ch 3.

Yeah, I heard that too, I might've dreamed that they went to 2. Not sure what they're actually using 2 for, there's dispatch traffic on it (and 1) tonight.

I've heard detail units using "Baker" radio ids (ex. Adam 17 and Adam 31 will be a 2-man unit tonight going as Baker 1). Last night I heard "Charles 1" covering Wesleyan. Are the Charles units also detail units?
Also, in looking at Pro96com, it seems the car radios are always on TG 4992 and they use the portables for the dispatch channels.

Today I was hearing TG 4978 used a lot. You can hear Bloomington PD dispatch in the clear but the mobile units are all encrypted. I wonder if it's related to this incident.
TG 4978 was referred to as "Encrypted 1".

Cubn, you're correct. The encryption you heard was due to that unfortunate incident.

They changed the link since I posted that. It was the Kuantrae Massey shooting in SW Bloomington. I also saw TG 4983 coming active in the evening but I didn't see any transmissions in the clear on it.
So, when there is a serious incident, does BPD now move all units to TG 4978?? Is that their normal protocol now? That's what Champaign and Urbana police do is to move all units responding to a serious incident to an encrypted talkgroup. In the past, they'd leave the responding BPD officers on 1 and move other units to ch 3. On rare occasions I'd hear some tactical teams on BPD ch2 but that was in the UHF days.

I have noticed more encryption lately on my nights off. I believe some of the cars have problems using their encryption at times.

Talked to a officer here in ENC-Joliet, says he does not like the 2-10 second delay talking on the mikes because of the digital encryption.....Just got new noise cancelling mikes and there the same....Most of the time first words are cut-off....

Kind of hard for Joliet officers to say that it is because of the encryption that their access to the system is delayed. They went straight out of the gate with digital and encryption.
If they suspect the encryption they should test access without it and see what happens.

Sure, I would recommend the pro-197 or pro-106 which both work great here in central Ill.
