Default Commonwealth Edison 900Mhz. Digital System

Motorola Solutions Media Center - Press Releases - Motorola Solutions Announces First 900 MHz ASTROŽ 25 Digital Radio System Contract for Public Utility

Received an e-mail on this. I'm assuming they'll be abandoning the Nextel network after this upgrade. I always enjoyed listening to the old VHF system, especially during storms. I remember the "beeps" to open up the receivers in the repair vehicles. One of my early listening memories. Look foward to increased coverage.

Does anybody know when they plan to start rolling out the new digital talk groups, I listen every now and then but so far I have only heard analog on 900MHz system. It will be interesting to see how their new digital coverage will compare to analog. Also are they planning Encryption on any of the plant sites, these days it seems like any security for a nuclear power plant may be encrypted.

Thanks for any answers,
Bob

I would imagine that they would get encryption compatible radios, I have driven by the Byron Nuclear power plant before and have only heard a couple of talk groups active when I have driven by, but I don't sit around anywhere near it to monitor just due to security concerns. Its a fairly low power system too.

Their security or yours? <g>

Don't recall ever hearing any of the plants such as Byron on the ComEd network. And I usually listen only after I lose my power in a bad storm. As an electronics guy it is interesting to listen to. The landscape is like one giant circuit board!

Extensive testing was being performed on the new P25 system yesterday with lots of test counts. At least 100 talk groups were logged. Control channel of 937.9875 is very strong in central Dupage county.

Frequencies reported by Unitrunker...

937.9125
937.9625
937.9750 (CC currently)
937.9875 (CC previously)

Site: BEE00-496

Lots of talkgroups but because they were in testing mode there will be alot of unknowns. Will create a list after I go through the recordings of what was identified.

More activity showing up. Will try to see if there is any voice activity but Unitrunker is definitely showing some more active talkgroups.

Unitrunker is reporting 8 active sites.

Site Number and Control Channel
Site 1 937.9875
reported frequencies 937.900, 937.9125, 937.9625, 937.9500

Site 2 937.9500
reported frequencies 936.4625, 937.9375, 937.9875, 938.000

Site 3 935.4250
Site 8 935.4500
Site 10 938.7125
Site 12 937.6625
Site 13 939.6750
Site 17 937.4125

I can only receive sites 1 and 2 in the Western Suburbs.

I can hear the CC's for Sites-101,102,110 and 112....On the Uniden 996XT in a "custom search" the scanner stops and labels these sites but no modulation as yet....

Do you run Unitrunker, Ron? I'd like to see if there are more sites than what is listed here.

Wow! I've never seen a P25 system on 935 MHz. Would someone please send me a decode log?

I do not run anythig but the "custom search" on 900mgz, the 996XT as mentioned labels the system # and tower #, just rely on the CC's i can receive....Not very good with computers and programs.....

Rick now has a copy of a decode log file to look over.

There were some transmissions yesterday that were logged in Unitrunker.

Incredibly, there were lots of encrypted (P4) and emergency encrypted (P2) transmissions logged.

I was south of Dwight today and copied the following sites on the new system:
109 938.9000
110 938.7125
114 937.9875

I could hear a control channel on 939.6625 but couldn't pick up the site number.

Thanks for that. The decode rate was 100% all the way through. You must be sitting next to the tower.

Here's some of what I wanted to see ...

Code:
Identifier Update 4 Base 935012500 Spacing 12500 Tx Offset -39000000
This is the same type of band plan message as used on 851 and 770 Mhz, as expected.

There were lots of these ...

Code:
Synchronization Broadcast 2012-10-04 23:18 (maybe) MMU0 MC0 Slot 660
I think this means the hardware could be upgraded to TDMA (but is not currently).

The log is for site 01-01, which has lots of neighbors.

Code:
Adjacent Status Broadcast Mfg 00 LRA 00 Sys 496 Sub 01 Site 08 cfVA channel 4-163(939.45000)(data,voice,registration)Current Connected
Adjacent Status Broadcast Mfg 00 LRA 00 Sys 496 Sub 01 Site 0A cfVA channel 4-128(938.71250)(data,voice,registration)Current Connected
Adjacent Status Broadcast Mfg 00 LRA 00 Sys 496 Sub 01 Site 0D cfVA channel 4-175(939.67500)(data,voice,registration)Current Connected
Adjacent Status Broadcast Mfg 00 LRA 00 Sys 496 Sub 01 Site 11 cfVA channel 4-0C0(937.41250)(data,voice,registration)Current Connected
Adjacent Status Broadcast Mfg 00 LRA 00 Sys 496 Sub 01 Site 02 cfVA channel 4-0EB(937.95000)(data,voice,registration)Current Connected
Adjacent Status Broadcast Mfg 00 LRA 00 Sys 496 Sub 01 Site 03 cfVA channel 4-021(935.42500)(data,voice,registration)Current Connected
Basically, the messaging looks very much like the 851 and 770 Mhz systems in my area. I was concerned I might need to do something special to accomodate 935 Mhz trunking. Thankfully, that's not necessary.

Thanks "Rich", i don't know what system tower there using down here, i don't think they would be using the one up in the CGO or Dupage area but who knows.....I keep searching the 900mgz area, see CC's and tower #'s but no voice or even "data"......Well just like Joliet who are completely "ENC" now another one bites the dust!!....
