Railroad Frequencies - Southern IL

I am wondering how to get Railroad Frequencies. My old books have the old railroad lines, but now with mergers like Union Pacific, and CN taking over everything, they are hard to find. I even tried online looking with no luck.

Does anyone have Railroad frequencies for the Randolph, Perry Counties area (Chester, Sparta, Percy, Steeleville, Cutler) those are my surrounding areas. I am actually in Percy IL.

What scanner are you using? Most have a service search option where you can search the Railroad bands and from listening, figure out what's being used in your area.

FYI I live near a UP yard and am also having trouble narrowing down certain frequencies.

So if anyone knows a confirmed list of UP frequencies please chime in

Also note I've been montitoring what's listed on here and it's not looking like it's all that accurate

Have you checked the CARMA IL Railroad Radio Guide? It's the best and most complete list I've found anywhere. http://www.carmachicago.com/profiles/RailFreqs.pdf It lists channel assignments by railroad whether they're in use in IL or not, so it'd be a good starting place to search if nothing else.

The main road ch. here is 161.280mhz.

Rail police can be heard out of dupage on starcom21 tg's 4876 & 4877

The UP road channels were accurate and verified in use about a year ago.
The Dupo Yard channel was also in use. UP used to run 160.470 and 160.410 for the local road channel on the Jeff City sub several years ago and all the way back when it was MoPac but they split up the different subdivision several years ago.

I've not monitored any of the yards as I'm not near any but the road channels are accurate as listed for UP.
I confirmed the sub dispatcher on the four listed last night.

160.410 and 161.550 should be the 2 that you will hear most radio traffic concerning trains in the Percy area. Now, if you are also wanting to listen to CN in Du Quoin and Pinckneyville then listen to these, 160.920 and 161.190. The UP should be narrowbanded in this area by now, not too sure CN has switched over. But It shouldnt make too much difference on your scanner.
Trains coming from Mt Vernon usually get their track warrants in Ina, so if the dispatcher gets them a warrant from Mt Vernon all the way to Chester, you wont hear much on the scanner except the defect detector near Pickneyville.

Not sure if your scanner has all the RR channels but, if it does let it scan, and then see where it stops most. Railroad traffic in that area should be pretty good. Also might check out the Radioreference feed in that area I think it is from Washington County, it might have the channel he monitors. Will help you out for your area to I think.
