My questions - 1. Do I need all the cc in D-9 from both sites and if so in the same banks?
2. If both towers do the same thing is one better to have than the other?

I put T217 in bank one and T230 in bank 2. Early in the day bank one seemed to be working fine with some static. Then is fizzled out and bank 2 started pulling in the conversations better. I am 1 mile from the first cc's I listed and about 5 miles from the second.

Need some starcom 101!

I have a pro-96 which is basically the handheld version of the 2096. All I have programmed into it is two cc freq's. 866.925 and 867.325. I hear 13004, 13005, 13017, 130046, 17009, 13007,13011, 13000, 17011, 17040, 7311, and still a few misc. others. mostly interested in d-9 state police. I too am interested in any replies on how to better set up my scanner. I know I can't get any 700mhz cc's with it. I don't think there are any of those in d-9 except for cass and maybe menard county. I am still experiencing quite a bit of distortion/digital noise on an intermittent and unpredictable basis. Don't know if it is simulcast distortion, bad reception or what. Still wondering if a gre scanner would be better, but I saw the other day a post that said they are not. Any comments/suggestions welcomed.

I have a 2096 and im 20 miles from the T125-Grundy Co here in Joliet, the 2096 has a RS-20-176 ground plane up 30' with RG6U lowloss coax and receives "full signal-98%" from this tower hearing D5,6,17,21...Using a rubber duck on the second story of my tri-level on my PRO96 is OK but as mentioned in your posts still results in signal loss and machine-gunning but NOT on the 2096...Just my 2cents...PS: I also have the GRE500, its maybe about 10% more sensative than the PRO96 but still see's some drop-outs upstairs with a RS 800 rubber duck....The proof is in the outdoor antenna...

Thanks for the info. Yes, Ido have those 2 cc's in the same bank. I guess I should put them in separate banks?

Default Starcom Sites

Yes, unless you have a multi-site capable scanner like the Uniden 996 then each Starcom site should have it's own bank allocated in the radio. Treat each site like a separate system, though the large talkgroup list is common to each - within each of the 3 zones (North, Middle & South), plus the statewide groups. Make sense?

Default Springfield sites

Yes, the Springfield arrangement does seem a little odd. I had assumed that perhaps the Dist 9 HQ tower would only have state police and/or academy traffic assigned. But from what we've seen while we have been there - that doesn't seem to be the case. They seem to work like all the other sites. What you'll hear on each seems to depend solely on which radios tuned to which talk groups are currently affiliating with each site.

Both the Hilton and D9 sites seem to have excellent ground coverage geographically. While 800 MHz propagation is generally weird, we had no trouble copying either site from 10-20 miles away.

The Springfield City TRS seems even better, I can usually copy it about 3/4's of the way out to Bloomington/Normal, and even from there when I find a sweet spot.

An 800 MHz gain or outside antenna may help a bit.

On the RS2096/PRO96 you can put multiple CC'c in one bank, seperate them with a VHF-Analog freqy set to "FM" and it works fine...I have two 800mgz systems in one bank here my local system and the local prison...They must be Motorola Type11 not EDACS....
