Question My first scanner- Pro 197 and need help plz

I just purchased a Pro 197 from Radio Shack and they said it came pre-programmed and ready to receive. Well I can here the weather but that is about it.

I have been reading about re-banding and firmware upgrades. Does my scanner need to have the latest 1.7 firmware installed or will the 1.6 version work for the Indianapolis area.

I am as new as a newbie can be at this so any helpful suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Yes... you will need to update to latest Firmware version available on Radio Shack's website.

Next, I would suggest that you download the free evaluation version of WIN500.
It's fully functional for 30 day trial.

Win500: PSR-500, PSR-600, PRO-106, PRO-197 Scanner Software for Data Management, Monitoring, and Control

Download the attached zip file, unzip it, and use it to program the scanner.

This file is set-up for the entire state of Indiana, with one scanlist (bank) set up for each Indiana State Police District. It is set-up to default to District 52 Indianapolis.

ENJOY!!!

I am looking for frequencies for the southwest area of Indianapolis to upload to my Pro197 using Win500. Are there other frequency files available for downloading anywhere on this forum? Do I have to be a premium user to access them?

If you are looking for freq's to upload into your "197" then you have come to the right place. Suggest you go to the DataBase within this site, go to the state of Indiana and then to the county or counties of interest. There you will find many freq's listed for various organizations. Enter the freq's into Win500 and upload to your scanner.

It will take time and energy on your part, but you will learn how to program the scanner.
