??? I think you're going to need to be more specific than that.

I have a Pro-2096 and a Pro-96 and Listen to Indiana State Police all the time along with Safe-t.If you will read your owners manual for the Pro-2096 it will tell you how to program the bank you need.

Can you hear any of the control channels from where you are? The towers that are near the state lines may have reflectors on them so the RF doesn't cross over where it's not needed.

Sorry for the confusion. My question was for the OP. He's over on the Kentucky side of the pond. Just thought I'd ask him that as if he can't hear any of them, it would save him from wasting his time programming the SAFE-T system. If he can hear one of the control channels, then we could all go from there

Since you listen to ISP, I have a question for you. The online feed on here that I was listening to for my area is apparently offline for good. So, in a month or two, I am considering buying my own scanner. I know that I will need a "digital" one for ISP, but do they also pick up the non-digital broadcasts? Our city and county have not gone digital. I hope this makes sense, I'm not totally sure what I'm talking about here! LOL
Oh, and if anyone has any recommendations on a good scanner, I'd love some ideas!
Thanks!

I don't think anyone can really make a good recommendation on a scanner as they all have their pros and cons. The best advice I can give is to read through some online reviews and also the Radio Shack, GRE and Uniden forums, here at Radio Reference, to help you narrow down your choices.

Myself, I'm happy with my PRO-2096 and PRO-96 right now. It's not the latest and greatest but it works for me. However, something else may appeal to you.

To answer your question, all of the digital scanners made by Radio Shack, GRE and Uniden will also receive analog transmissions. There are no worries there, unless you plan to monitor a LTR trunking system which would take the Pro-2096 and Pro-96 out of the list of possibilities as they will not track a LTR system.

Hope this was of some help.

Thank you so much for your advice. I don't need the latest and greatest. I just want something simple that will do the job I need it to. Nothing fancy.
You had me until the "LTR trunking" thing. I've seen mention of trunking on the forums before. I'm not exactly sure what that is. Probably something I don't need! LOL. I will definitely look into what Radio Shack and Uniden have. I probably won't be buying until sometime next month, but I want to know what I want when I get it. I'm sad that the feed I was listening to is gone. Believe it or not, it helped me to study. I just returned to college online, and the noise from the scanner helped me. I tried listening to another feed, but it's not the same. I want to hear my familiar voices. I know most of the local police around here, which is why I started listening in the first place.
Thank you again for taking the time to answer me!

I will recomend the Uniden 996T and the Uniden 396T handheld. Also would recomend the Radio Shack Pro-2096 and the Pro-96 if you can find them.I have all(4) in my shack along with other radios that I use.You will need a Digital trunking scanner as most of Indiana in going to Indiana Safe-t and your analog scanner will not be able to pick up anything but Aircraft and Ham Radio.I would buy a Digital scanner that way you will be ready when your county changes over to Safe-t.

Ok, what is the difference between a trunking scanner and a digital scanner? I'm sorry to be asking so many questions, I just have no idea about anything of this. And, honestly, how many channels is enough?

For people new to scanning, the wiki here has some great info. Check out the article on Trunking Basics. Trunking and digital are not mutually exclusive; in fact, they usually go together. ISP uses digital voice on Project Hoosier SAFE-T, which is a trunking system. The wiki also has articles on all the different models of scanners, which list their capabilities.

Also, giving your location might be helpful so we know what city/county you're talking about.

Wow, I'm sorry! I'm in Fulton County. The online feed on here is the only one for our county that I've been able to find since TDconnections went down a year and a half ago.
I will definitely look at the link and that info.

Thank you for the link to that article. It makes alot more sense to me now! I have noticed alot of people suggesting the handheld models. I know that it is illegal to have them in your vehicle, etc, but is it legal to have them in your home? Thanks again to everyone who has offered advice and information! It will really help me when I go to buy my scanner. I'm hoping next month. Also, anyone have opinions on which ones are easier to program? I've never done this before. (Obviously.) And, I don't want to get something that I'll be unable to use because I can't figure it out!

A handheld scanner is perfectly legal to have in your home.

I have found on the internet that if your county does not update to Safe-t the county or the city will loose funding to maintain there current analog system. In other words if you want the money you had better update your current system with radios on Safe-t.This was direct from ISPC who maintains Safe-t.As I said before it would be a good time to buy a "Digital scanner"When you county or city changes you will be able to hear them on Safe-t on 800Mhz Trunking.Your old analog scanner will only be good for Aircraft, Ham Radio, etc but no police, fire, or ems in your community.

Hey, thank you for looking into that! I am planning to buy a digital trunking scanner. I have been looking at a few, and will probably end up getting the handheld. I am missing my scanner feed so much! LOL. I've looked other places on the internet and haven't been able to find a feed, not even for the state police. I'll just have to suffer for the next month or month and a half!
