Default 5-tone Paging????

I know how 2-tone works, and how to program Icom radios to work on systems that use 2-tone.

But I dont understand how 5-tone works.
Is it the same as 2-tone, just with 5?

When I tried to program one of my Icoms to tx a 5-tone call, it sounded kind of weird.

And the software has so many things to program, where as the 2-tone you just have the A and B tone frequencies and the timings.

Are there any websites out there that have a complete run down of all the ins and outs of 5-tone???

I am giving a demonstration next week to an ARES ham radio group on how to use 2-tone paging, and how it could be adapted to amateur radio. While I am talking about 2-tone, Id like to touch on some of the other
analog tone paging methods.

Steven

It is not like 2 tone.

It is also called decimal digital with 11 tones,, one for each digit from 0 to 9, and a "R" tone so you can have repeated numbers.

It is also called 5/6 tone as the last tone was optional and I think helped with grouping, but it has been about 20 years since I had to know what I was talking about on the topic.
