Default EFJ 5100 Programming Issue

Hello,
I am trying to program my EFJ 5100 using the PCC. I am also using a serial -> usb cable, because I don't have a serial port on my computer. When I try to read the radio, the PCC says the com port is not available. I looked in the "help" section of the PCC and it mentions a USB programming cable option.

My question is how do I get the PCC to read from the USB port instead of the serial port. If it won't do that, any suggestions on how to make this work since I don't have a serial port on this computer?

Thank you!

Go into your computer's control panel and see which com port has been assigned to the usb/serial adapter. In the PCC software, set your com port to that number.

Not the control panel,DEVICE MANAGER.

under comports it will show you the port your plugged into..

if its not recognized, unplu it,full reboot..then plug the USB back in
possibly reload the driver if it asks.

I have a VHF 5100 for personal and rescue use, and we use the XTS5000 at work. While it is true that the accessories are interchangeable, they are different radios through and through.

They "solid" feel is similar among the two. I have put the 5100 through some abuse, though not as much as I have seen an XTS5000 or old Jedi-series portable go through.

I like the 5100 for the most part, however in my opinion the 5100 has a less-sensitive front end than the Motorola. I purposefully program the squelch at -7 on channels that have tone encode and decode. My old Kenwood 270s, with the squelch quite tight, are still more sensitive than the 5100 when "wide open" on a good day.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (Linux; U; Android 4.1.1; en-us; EVO Build/JRO03C) AppleWebKit/534.30 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0 Mobile Safari/534.30)

I got it figured out, thanks very much to all that responded.

I think this is a great radio, although I haven't used it on calls too much yet. It's solid and pretty sensitive. I wish the FPP was as "user friendly" as the xts series
