• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Hello everyone I am new to Uniden and I just received my new Uniden UM380 for christmas. i already have a AIS/VHF/GPS combo antenna mounted on my boat, the problem I have is the lead coming out of the antenna for GPS and AIS/VHF is FME. I have an adaptor to convert AIS/VHF to PL-259 what I don't have is a connector to convert the NMEA 0183 lead (yellow&green) on the Uniden to the connection options (FME, SMA, BNC or TNC) that my antenna gives me. Is there a connector out there I am not finding that someone can lead me to? or is there a converter box of some sort?

Equipment:
Uniden UM380
Tram- 16773 AIS/VHF/GPS
1- FME to TNC connector
1- FME to BNC connector
1- FME to SMA connector

Thank in advance to anyone who can help with this issue.

Your radio has two types of NMEA connections - NMEA input from a GPS receiver (green wire) and NMEA output to a chartplotter (orange wire).

NMEA 0183 is a standard for data communications and does not have anything to do with your antenna.

Thank for explaining the colors that helps but my questions is the fitting on my antenna is FME is the a way (connector)to get it to the green wire. I don't want to cut the lead on my antenna (FME) I would rather rnd some sort of converter. Thanks again

You've got two separate things that are not going to go together without something in the middle.

The FME connector for the GPS is -only- an RF signal coming from the antenna and maybe 5vdc being fed back up for the amplifier. This is an RF signal ONLY.

You need a GPS receiver connected to the antenna. Lots of options here.

From the GPS receiver, you would connect the DATA output to the green DATA input wire.

You cannot connect the antenna (RF signal) directly to the data wire. You must have a receiver in the middle.

You have a VHF radio, and you have an antenna. The only connection you need is using the PL-259.

If you are trying to interface with additional equipment such as a chartplotter, please provide the make and model and a description or diagram of how everything is installed and connected now.

Otherwise, your new radio will work fine as a stand-alone unit.
