• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

The Datron Guardian is basically a re-cased Thales/RACAL 25 portable.I believe it even uses the same programming software. I'm not sure if it has the same pin-outs as the Thales 25.

A friend took a Datron apart recently and said its circuit boards are completely different than the Thales T25.

My mistake, it uses the same Thales T25 board and Thales based firmware and software. The Datron has pretty much the same exact features (Datron had their own version of analog DES) and even the same screen format as the Thales 25.It even has the same Fire Features zone.

Unfortunately the pin-outs are different. I have a T25 too.

So the racal software will work with the gaurdian?
I also got a g25rpv100. The batteries are the same as the xts series. And it looks like the moto antennas will work also.
Does anyone have a manual?

The Datron batteries have a bunch of RF filtering and Motorola batteries will cause lots of problems. I had a Guardian with a Motorola battery and it would draw lots of extra current and the radio would reset all the time. I was able to measure the current in 5A range on transmit.

I traded the radio off and the new owner took it in person to Datron and they confirmed you cant use Motorola batteries, they must have the extra RF filtering. I also had a programming cable and I can ask the new owner to pin it out for the group here.

I don't remember if the programming software is compatible between Thales and Datron but I do know the radio code plugs are as I received Guardian code plugs from my friend and put them in my Thales radios. I really like the Datron and Thales T25 radios, they are cheap, P25 and FPP.

I have some information on the Datron Guardians. We just acquired a few (400+) from the National Fire Center on excess. I was able to get a Manual and programming cables and software. What I am looking for is any extra information on testing these radios. I know they were only manufactured for a limited time and the rights have since been sold off. I was able to talk to Datron customer service and they told me that Cobham Avcomm purchased the rights to the Datron platform. I have tried to contact Cobham but they are yet to respond.

I have a copy of the programming and maintenance manuals for anyone who would like a copy. Let me know and I can email them The pdf scans are much too large to attach to the forum.

As stated before by others... these radios do use the Thales/Racal programming software. Of what I know, NIFC used a Racal testing breakout box with some extra cables to test the Datrons. I am not sure if there was ever a testing cable or audio break out box specific to the Guardians created or sold. If I can find one, I will let you all know.

If someone is smart enough to make a test set up for the Datrons please let me know.
