AWACS And Hawkeyes Very Active Today!

I'm getting lots of transmissions this Sunday morning over Southeast Iowa from AWACS on 282.6 talking to the 132nd's Hawkeyes from Des Moines working in the Howard MOA. Getting them on 257.9 (Howard) 319.9 (Quincy RCAG/Howard) and on there Air Tac Freqs 316.9 and 297.5. Now I just need my pro-2052 to recieve AM in the 138-144 range so I can get there Air To Air!! But Anyway, Im sure you guys around Des Moines will hear them coming home soon (Howards done at 16:30z).

(Update) Ok, so the AWACS I was hearing is now helping with CAP's Being Ran over St Louis. The Freq was the Nationwide Blue-17 CAP freq 282.6, I can Barely make out the Fighters talking to NEADS now but I can hear the E-6 perfectly

Cya!

Thanks Splash! Very Cool!! I Wonder What show they where heading too. That is a rare occasion when it pays to have there Freqs stored! Any Luck on A2A with them??

Yeah I have heard a lot on Mainsail And Weather, most of what I heard (Prolly heard the same thing) was from Jesse Flight (180th AS C-130's out of Northwest Mizzu)

Also GREAT SITE, I did not know about it! I usually search codes on like airliners.net and find pictures or just goggle them, which usually doesn't work well lol

My next Big Catch was this morning before work, it is ether Rookie B-2 Pilots or A-10 pilots (2 Ship) Returning to Whiteman after a 17hr long duration flight. Includes them hearing there Bomb scores from 35000ft. and other chit chat. I recorded it all so i might upload it. I'm guess'n they are A-10's because of them being surprised of good scores from FL350 and because they consider 17hrs long duration lol (ask a c-130 or e-6 what long duration is for them lol)

Also on the same recording I intercepted Refueling to/from

77-0356 OK E-3B 21556/935 960th AACS act mar04 apr07

58-0067 KC-135R 17812 116th ARS ? WA ANG

Another Update the B-2's are back tonight, I'm getting Reaper 11 and 12 again talking to FSS 255.4 and on A2A 388.85 They said something about over the Atlantic so I guess there coming home from a long one! (Sadly I didn't not record)

I got one Serial from 12:
89-0128 WM B-2A-30 1013/AV-13 13th BS act jan07 aug08 'Spirit of Nebraska' '509 OG/Anytime Anywhere'

Hawkeyes active today just before 1400 CDT.
2v2 long range engagement.
Hawkeye1 with Bandsaw on 138.200
Bud1 with Bandsaw on 251.250
257.900 & 319.900 active also

1420hrs Bud1 exits area SW at 9000
Hawkeye1 exits area NW at 23000 using 138.400 & 138.150
Viper1 using 138.300 enters area 1425hrs, RTB Desmoines 1445hrs
Mentioned foul up on GCI would try again tomorrow.

My wife has the laptop today so no recording :(

I heard Bud1 a few days ago on 251.250 and they mentioned using 293.500, but it was weak.
My logs also show 225.300 was strong on 07/12/08 with Corona3 and C-130's transiting the area.

Now a question. In my recording in the other thread, after they "knock it off" they call in 3 sets of numbers. I figure the last is fuel x 1000. Which is alt and speed?

Haha!! Yeah Today Was A GREAT DAY for Milcoms, but for a sad reason, Of course getting ready for being ready tomorrow. But yeah, I heard all you described (Most from 257.9 and 319.9) and A LOT from AWACS, Bandsaw actually took up most of the recording so i missed out on Hawkeye 11 and Cyclone 21 talkn A2A. But anyway LOTS of BRAA Calls to Hawkeye and Cyclone Groups Recorded! 2 Bullzeye From 90,000ft and 80,000ft Hostile (what scram jets??lol) They Called one group Mig 29's, sad thing was my computer froze up during the day so and I wasn't able to get a frequency list to see what AWACS (Bandsaw) was using today (I think 251.25). I also Heard Viper1 Along with Bud1

Also picked up an E-3 Refueling at the beginning of the day from BAT 51

(I'm gonna listen to your recording again and try to find out)

I thought it goes: ALT (AGL) + SPEED (Knots) + FUEL (x1000lbs) , but I'm prolly wrong, what would 4.5 be in mach lol, like over 2000 mph

In fact I am pretty sure because in the call to terminate around 6:17 on your recording, they call out: Snake 1 is 22 25 4.8 , snake 2 is 17 22 3.8, and snake 3 is 20 23 4.3, and Snake 1 tells 3 He can be in the middle or where ever he wants (So I think hes in the middle at FL200, Snake 2 Being the Lowest at 17000, and 1 Being up at FL220)

So a Little Less Confusing:
Snake One Is At FL220 (22000ft) at 250 (Mach .44) with 4,800 pounds of fuel

So anyway, It seems pretty much I'm hearing what is to far for you to hear and like wise.....lol...Do you know where Viper Flight is From??

That makes sense. I'm sure I've heard the 1st # below 9. That's possibly below stall speed of a naked F-16 @ ~20K (unless your AOA is 30+ degrees!). So I'm guessing ALT x 1000, Speed x 10, and Fuel x 1000.

According to the Carma profile Viper is an alternate callsign for the 132nd Iowa ANG or the 183rd out of Tulsa OK.
http://www.carmachicago.com/profiles/Milair.pdf

Any idea who Bud1 was? Via Google I found it was used for F-15s out of Lambert field St. Louis. Whoever they were they stayed up longer than the F-16's.

Get that antenna up with some good coax and you'll have my reception beat hands down! All the ANG air to air tac stuff I've heard is on VHF tho.

I'd be willing to bet Viper Flight was from Tulsa due to me not hearing them return to Des Moines, I only heard Hawkeye 11 and Cyclone 21, and because the Vipers departed the southwest (toward Okie?)

Yes Bud Flight is out of KSTL, They have been running CAP missions all weekend. It all makes since them flying CAP missions together due to The 138th Viper's, The 132nd Hawkeyes, and The 131st (Bud) are all part of the Twelfth Air Force

Most Air 2 Air is on VHF High Frequencies I think, but my problem is the RS Pro-2052 only receives FM, and not AM mode on the VHF High Freqs. (All Aircraft is AM Mode if I recall correctly)

I can't wait the get the antenna and coax, I do plan on setting a Live Stream with my Favorite Milcom Freqs along with Chicago Center 135.6 (Burlington RCAG) and KBRL CTAF On liveatc.net (And in the works is my own server/site for the a live stream as well as Recordings, Frequencies and so on....but that's probably more toward mid-winter)

Its nice to have you guys log what you hear from Howard Moa. I don't hear all of the low alt comms, just to far from Jones co. If you want you could try some of the Lindbergh/Salem moa freqs. I do hear them from time to time, but very weak.
293.600
290.250
293.100
269.225
The Thunderbirds may have been on there way to Reno Navada for a show on the 12 & 13

I have heard Sentry40 in the area before, The BRAA Calls Yesterday came from Bandsaw, but I think there may have been a Sentry flight around cause I heard them Refueling on Track AR318, and I heard Hawkeye 11 get a Victor Freq. from other AWACS

Thx again Splash! Yeah, I have them In one of my banks, I have been getting some from Lindbergh MOA but it is really weak. With good coax and antenna I'm sure I'll catch more out of there. What I need to find now is freqs for Truman MOA (just have looked yet)

Lindbergh/Salem MOA will be active from 18:00z to 20:00z
HOWARD East and West from 18:45-20:45 (was active from 14:45-16:45)

Heard some radio testing with Coffin Corner and BC3 or VC3 (Hard to make out).
Going from clear to secure on the normal crypt freqs we are used to but heard a few new ones.
353.4
250.850
139.6

After the tests things got exciting with some real good fights.
Normal freqs used plus one of the new ones.

138.15
138.2
138.3
233.4
311.3
353.4

Also 373.1 (IA ANG Command Post Freq) an F-15 inbound to Des Moines ANG. I Still haven't gotten his callsign yet.
Had lots of traffic with Army guard Helo's on 36.7 FM
Good day for monitoring, looks like their will be more activity in the crypt tonight at 7 also.

Hi Rick
Well the direction they came from and as Low as they were
and talking back to their base ops on VHF-Lo (36.7 Mhz)
I am assuming they were out of Boone.
They Stopped out at the FD Army Guard unit.
Moved over the summer and got a few antenna's up
so I'm just getting back into the swing of things here.
Hope to be able to get a lot more updates coming.
