Default Scanner recommendations?

Hi,
I'm new to this forum, and I've used the feature to suggest scanners for the Johnson Co area. Anyone in this area have an opinion on what mobile scanner to buy? I understand that Johnson Co might be going digital, so I'm leaning to buying on of those so I don't have a boat anchor if/when they do convert.

Thanks,
Dan

BCD396XT is one of the hottest new handheld scanners, or the BCD996T is the best base scanner from uniden. I would go with the 396xt seeing as it has NAC decoding and a band scope

If you can wait, hold off until this summer when the 996XT is released: http://www.radioreference.com/forums...announced.html

Default Great. More decisions.

Thanks for the replies. I was going to wait for the Radio Shack mobile to go on sale like it did last December. So I'll wait to see which happens first.....unless some other deal pops up!

Default Scanner recommendations?

Hi Dan, Welcome!

I live in Johnson Co, and you are correct, They will be going digital. This was confirmed with Business Communications in Coralville. He did mention that it would be a system that digital scanners on the market now cannot receive. I'm not sure if he is hinting at PROVOICE or what. He didn't give a date as to when the project will be complete either.

Back on the subject, I just bought the Radio Shack PRO 197 last Friday. I upgraded from the PRO 2096. With WIN500 it made programming the scanner a breeze! Now it doesn't have the Fire Tone Out as I believe some of the other scanners on the market have, but it does to NAC decoding. I've never owned a Bearcat but I do hear they are pretty sweet.. Any questions you have feel free to ask. Happy scanning...

Matt
