Anyone hear these guys this morning? I dont have any info on this TG. They were using the military phonetic alphabet------not your typical law enforcement talk. Mike

I have been listening off and on this morning. Tama county was shutting down traffic all morning for something, they would not say what they were doing but i also gathered that they did not want to discuss what exactly was going on. I have the GID you mentioned programmed in my radio, ill see if they talk any more today!

More info
They are referring to themselves as Iowa-JOC. Which turns up nothing on a quick google. They are definitely military or similarly trained. They talked about deploying a ACU1000 within an hour (1155 now). From what i read that is a comunication cross-connect device. Something big is going down, it might be a exercise. The Health Alert network was buzzing this morning for an exercise, maybe they are related? This Iowa-JOC talked about users getting on RACOM soon and to radio-check with them when they came online soon. Making for an interesting afternoon for sure! Makes me wish I had eTrunker running to watch for new GIDs!!

I also heard the Tama traffic. At about 1130am, Iowa (67 talk ) -to Iowa jock talking about deploying the "big tan thing" out of CR. Also talked about a VSAT(dont know what that is). Also something about an AC8200 (i think that was the right #).Right now they are coordinating their radios with RACOM. I also heard the radio-techs for RACOM talking about the "convoy". I dont think this is some kind of exercise. Maybe another ICE raid? I dont know just speculating. Mike

They are at the MTOWN fairgrounds getting ready to leave town. They are going at least as far as State Center, on Lincolnway. They dont normally do this for military convoys do they? We will get it figured out! Oh, i did catch a TG of 02-113-------it sounded scrambled, or encrypted. Mike

Cool, might take my lunch and wander out that way see whats goin on. I've never heard them do this for a convoy before so it makes me wonder what is so special about this one hmmmm... Also makes me wonder where they are going, have to keep an ear on the radio today see if they divulge any info!

This morning a convoy of old military trucks came thru Tama. They are going from coast to coast following the Lincoln highway (old 30 we call it here).

Well fireside hit it on the head. I drove over to the fairgrounds , took about 10 mins. of video, it is a convoy of older military equipment called the Transcontinental Motor Convoy. Fireside is right they are driving for about a month cross country. They a PBS crew with them, and a channel 5 news car---------i am not sure that it was WOI though. It was pretty cool to see. I am off work right now (had surgery on my arm), so I have more daytime monitoring time. I did hear that other TG i mentioned though, it keeps coming up, as though its encrypted. Just shows 02-113, then an open mic sound, but no audio. Anyway a pretty good day to monitor! Mike

Awesome job! I just missed them, MPD just said the last of the convoy is leaving the city. I will have to keep a look out for the TV spot tonight on the news.
I've heard the open mic sound, it seems one of the crew (LID 1069 or similar) has a mic problem and it keys but no audio is heard. He was talking to another guy about is POS radio lol
Definitely cool stuff!

What direction are they traveling? If they are headed to Nebraska I might have to program in some more of the Racom network.

DAK48, looks like the 24th, they go through Omaha, 25th through Grand Island, and the 26th through Ogallala. If you put in 2009 Transcontinental Military Convoy in Google, several maps will come up with the entire route.
Radioman, that explains that ID! Pretty good stuff today. Dont know if you monitor any VHF-HI band stuff, but their was some good DX going on today, should be good tonight also. I have quite a few freq. to punch in the database. Lots of RR freq. I dont normally hear. Mike
