Default Chopper 13

Just out of interest is it possible to listen to chopper 13 or is it just air traffic that will be broadcast and is it possible to capture the video link or is it digital or just recorded on the heli to be played back later ?

You might want to search the 450.0-450.999Mhz area and you will find what you are looking for.Hope this helps.

Nearly all of the ENG (electronic news gathering) video is sent via point to point microwave links and unless you're on the exact path would be very difficult to intercept directly. They are often in the 2 GHz range. Due to the movement of the helicoptor, the path is even more difficult to intercept.

It looks like they've converted to "HD" on Chopper 13 so the transmission is most likely digital now as well and multiple channels (main video, main audio, cue audio, etc.) and would be difficult to decode as well.

It is possible to listen to Chopper 13 audio only from the Helicopter back to the station if you will scan the 450.0 to 450.999.It is very busy here in Indianapolis,In during the morning rush hour from 5-7AM.Also you might want to listen to 123.05 and 123.025 in the aircraft band. Here in Indianapolis all three tv stations helicopters talk to each other during the morning news. This is the reason why we see 3 helicopters flying around a scene of a serious accident, fire, etc.

Uhh, it's not the same helicopter. They don't take it from Indiana to Iowa every morning (Hint - note which forum you are in before responding )
