Default Denison, IA EDACS

I think Denison has a Racom tower there but I don't see it on the list? Does anyone know for sure?

Yes, it is site 3 on the RACOM system. Since all system 3 sites on RACOM share the same LCNs, the frequencies for Waterloo will also apply to Denison. Looks like it needs to be added to the RR database!!

The way I read the Racom network map is that Ames is also a system 3 but does not have as many frequencies as Waterloo, why is that?

If I wanted to monitor the Denison tower would I need to enter all the frequencies for Waterloo in my scanner?

Its easier to explain this by telling you how the radios are programmed. Each radio is programmed with 15 sites, plus any 'dedicated' sites. We wont focus on them right now. For sites 1-15, RACOM decided to make their own LCN plan that involved 20 LCNs for each site. Those we all programmed in the radios. Now the sites themselves dont need to utilize all those frequencies, thats why Ames only has a few, Waterloo has a bunch etc. If the hardware is there, the sites can add/remove LCNs as needed, and the radios will never miss a beat as the freq are already programmed in!

So for us scanner users, it makes sense that we should add the most frequencies per site, in order to hear traffic if the site ever adds any. And we know the frequencies for Waterloo will match Ames and Denison, as they have to follow the LCN rules or radios wont be able to roam properly. As usual, there are exceptions to this rule, but those are pretty rare.

Hope that helps!
