Lately I have been getting alot of static on one of the scanner frequencies. I wonder if this is something someone else has been hearing or if I need to adjust my scanner for better reception. The problem seems to be on Ames Ops 1 and it sounds like someone is keying the mic, but no body is heard on ether end.

Questions To Help

Lately I have been getting alot of static on one of the scanner frequencies. I wonder if this is something someone else has been hearing or if I need to adjust my scanner for better reception. The problem seems to be on Ames Ops 1 and it sounds like someone is keying the mic, but no body is heard on ether end.

I have reviewed the various radio systems in Ames, Iowa since I have Iowa programmed into my PSR 500; however, I cannot find a reference for "Ames Ops 1."

It would be very helpful if you would specify: a) your scanner model; b) the radio system and talk group associated with the aforementioned alpha tag; c) the frequency in case it is conventional & d) the type of service you are monitoring (police, fire, etc).

I have reviewed: a) conventional frequencies for Story county; b) RACOM; c) and Story county trunking.

I could be any of the frequencies associated with Ames public safety on the Ames Electronic Engineering SMR talkgroup.

Its been quite awhile since I have heard the noise on the radio Listen for it after dark or in the morning hours. As far as I know it could just be one of the police/fire radios going bad.

Ames Ops 1 is what we often call out on the radio when we are referring to Ames PD Dispatch. Its pretty common to call it ops1. Code: 57408.

Learned Something Today

Well, I was getting a bit confused. I assumed the trunking system you were talking about had something to do with Story County, but I see where I was wrong. Thanks, I will now program this system for Iowa. Hope you figure out your issue. Are you receiving other talk groups in this system?

Are you have difficulty receiving other frequencies and/or talk groups? What type of scanner are you using?

OK, quick question.....Why under story county do they list two different trunked systems for ISU?

One has 5 frequencies but hasn't been updated since June 2, 2010
One just links back up to Electronic Engineering SMR for Ames.

I know ISU shares both, but it almost made me create a new trunked system before I realized it was just referring back.

But really.....The isu one hasn't been updated since June 2, 2010?
