Technically the DPS is trying to bring the MVE into the DPS as a separate division.

Right now the NEW MVE officers are attending the DPS academy instead of the regular ILEA

The vehicles are being re packaged as seen in that photo

The licence plates are different in that they have a I believe Black STAR then badge number (T252) then another Black START (ISP has I believe Red STAR Badge number Red STAR

The original thoughts on bringing MVE into DPS was to fold them into the troopers. This proved to be problematic with pensions, seniority, other union matters, and pay.

Right now making them a separate division with separate divisional leadership while having new people attend DPS academy (and thus making them eligible for transfer to other divisions) is the new thought.

There is still a lot of things that have to happen (laws have to be changed in the legislature ) before the merger will happen but some things are already happening like the new logo and the new car colors

If I had to guess and this is just a guess. Go back to the day you saw them and see if any of the presidental/VP canidates were in the state. I am guessing it was Secret Service from eastern Iowa headed to Des Moines/ Ames or farther west or I guess it could have been them headed back west from an eastern iowa visit if this was a later in the day sighting. I tried to look it up but with out an exact date it was kind of hard. Lord know we have seen a ton of them around this area the last two months.

Couldn't quite tell, but they all had an antenna of the roof, which appeard to be a quarterwave. They had Monroe county and Poweshiek county regular Iowa plates. What agency/division would this have been?

I thought about USSS but they are kind of trademarked with Black SUV's instead of CVPI's
