Default Whar are they saying? What does it mean?

This applies to the Topeka area.. For some time now, when the ambulance--AMR...goes on a run, I hear the dispatch give the cause of the run as "on a SIK..." (Maybe it's a SIC?) What does that stand for?? I am sure it's something like LOC...Loss Of Consciousness...but I have not been able to 'break the code'.. Any help on this?

It is sick, meaning someone is sick.

Talking Thanks...

Well, that is what I thought at first....but that seemed too simple and straight-forward..!! I figured it was some acronymn that I was not aware of.....and the way they emphasized the word...made me wonder even more... I am just "SICK" about mis-understanding this....<GRINS>

Yea, they use it a lot more now it seems like. And yep, it does seem simple, but I guess thats what they use when they have minor problems or don't have anyone that can drive them to the hospital. I had never heard them use code orange either until recently. Apparently that is mental. They use to just use "psych."

Also you might hear ETOH on board or ETOH was involved, as well.

well the dude was drunk to excess, "ETOH" is the Chemical formula for Alcohol.

SIk,Syik however you say/spell it ,like code orange means "psych" and or sick.
if they are mental they are "sick", dependeing on the agency .

Default More on this....

I have heard ...and 'decoded' the ETOH for a long time.. and...the technical chemical term is Ethanol or Ethyl Alcohol...but...the more colorful and descriptive phrase is.... "Extremely Trashed or Hammered"
Just some FYI on this....
