Kansas Communication Grants 2008

Some interesting information on how Kansas is spending it's $10 million in Homeland Security Public Safety Interoperable Communications Grant funds.

I had heard that the state was going to purchase "subscriber units" (commonly known to the rest of us as "radios") and distribute them to counties. Looks like around 1,700 of them are going to be purchased with grant funds- anyone know how they are going to be doled out?

What I find even more interesting is that the Urban Area Security Initative funding map seems to include Johnson and Miami Counties in Kansas, but not Wyandotte and Leavenworth... although Johnson and Leavenworth are mentioned in the text as being included. I wonder if they are excluding funding for Leavenworth because that county has already "opted in" on the system and is planning and funding it themselves (with a few federal $$, of course)

And of course Wyandotte County always seems to have been the "Black Sheep" of the KC-Metro area....
