Question KHP help

Hello,

I am trying to program KHP for just the western bordering counties. I have them programed but am unable to hear KHP. Are they on the 800 mhz ch or is there something else I need to program? Iam programing a prs-600.

Thanks

Hello!

Just saw your post, and my information is good as of late 2008. I'm from the Colby area and visit there often.

KHP out west are on 800 mhz, but it is analog and single repeater based, not part of KSICS. Look under the Highway Patrol tag on the Kansas page. The towers are listed by location (town/city) and the county & county code are in parentheses. You will want to program whatever towers are in the area you want to cover. Each tower is stand-alone, and you will only hear the trooper if he is on the same tower you are monitoring. However, there were times when I was monitoring last year (last time I was home) that I could hear Dispatch simulcasting on multiple towers, so if they are still doing that you may hear dispatch more often than the troopers. From what some of the people in the Kansas forum have been saying, it sounds like the digital buildout for KSICS out west may not happen for some time due to the budget. If you are down in the southwest corner area, I do believe that Garden City KSICS has come online, but I don't know whether it is live or still in testing mode. It is a very local node to Garden City though; the rest of the west state is still on analog.

I was home for two weeks in late 2008, and the whole time I was there I was monitoring 800 analog and the old VHF-Low and the only traffic I heard was on 800. I don't think they are using the Low Band anymore, at least in the Thomas County area. My old dispatch doesn't even monitor KHP Low Band anymore.

Good luck, and if any of my information is bad, any one of the guys on here who study KSICS will clean it right up.
