Default Butler County TRS

I see that Butler County, has applied to the FCC, for a Project 25 digital site. The location is in Cassoday. Do they plan on migrating to the KSICS TRS?

They have been in talks with KDOT about joining the state system for quite a while. Looks like they are finally onboard.

I thought SE had already went to it. I think the only area that doesn't have it is western KS.

Jereck-

It is going to be up to each agency / county / city etc if they want to join the state system. Financially, it is going to be difficult for some smaller departments to go to 800 digital without some county / state / federal assistance. And this is at a time when the phone / cell companies are trying to pull back 911 funds from paying for radio equipment- they argue it should only be used for 911 phone systems.

Many small agencies are used to paying $300 to $400 for a radio that lasts them 7 to 10 year (though they should be using public safety models, many are using basic commericical radios such as Motorolas Radius line).

While the state provides service on the 800 system free to agencies- they have to either purchase or lease their base stations, mobile radios and portable 800 digital radios. The cost for a basic model public safety mobile/base station is approx. $1,800 and a basic public safety portable runs about $2,800. Even if they choose to lease equipment over 10 years- it is the equivalent for that small department in cost of replacing their "old" radios each year.

Then, there is the issue of coverage. The state system is not being built for in building coverage. This is why you see counties, like Leavenworth, that are joining the state system installing 3 or 4 additional towers at about $250,000 to $500,000 per site (depending on what equipment / tower is already in place).

If these small agencies are getting good service from their existing radios I don't think you will see many of them make the jump to 800 unless their county makes an enbloc move to 800- such as Leavenworth has done.

Question

All I know
Is that butler county has a few of their agencies that operate off of Sedgwick County's Towers..
Sedgwick County is in the process of changing over to digital.. So i guess you can officially call it a hybrid right now..

I heard a rumor, that they are currently upgrading portables and mobiles to the digital side, which is connected to the analog tower so that dispatch can still hear them..

The 2nd part of the rumor was that it would be fully digital in sedgwick county by middle of 2010..

Jereck_99,

If half of Wichita is using digital what are their freqs? I've got a new 396XT from ScannerMaster and I don't see any digital for WPD, EMS or Fire anywhere.
