Default KHP in western KS.

I just returned from Colorado via I-70 but heard zero transmissions on any of the KHP analog repeaters supposedly still operating west of Hays. I could not check the digital system, but it appeared that the analog system was no longer in operation at all. Can anyone confirm this?

Well, I just had the 800 KDOT class last week and they showed a map illustrating that the Western 1/3 is still analog. Could it be they rebanded?

I'm afraid I didn't have the presence of mind to check. I suppose it's possible. For awhile I thought there just wasn't much action, but then I passed a trooper who had flagged some poor guy down and I never heard his license check, so something was amiss. Next time I'll have the whole digital system programmed in and be better prepared. Maybe someone out around Colby or Goodland will fill us in.

Default reband

I plan on going out to Colorado at the end of this month. I put all the conventional 800 sites from Salina to Colorado as well as all of the P25 sites along I-70 in Colorado in my scanner. I havent heard anything through our channels about the towers out west being rebanded. Just played a little bit with my XTS-5000, put it on direct mode instead of repeater mode. All the output channels on the repeaters are still what it shows on this site. And my radio was just updated by the KDOT radio guys couple weeks ago with all the latest digital talkgroups and frequencies. If anybody hears anything about the west towers Id be interested.

KHP is still (presently) using the analog / conventional 800 repeaters in Western KS. Not sure why you didn't pick up any of their traffic. Be aware that it is common practice, especially in the more rural areas, for KHP Troopers to make car stops without any radio traffic.

I know the Russell County tower is still on analog, and Gove County. As far as I know everything out here is still analog...Ellis county is too, but most of the time I hear KHP using the Russell Tower.Ellis county troopers go through Hays PD alot on traffic.
