Default Garden City digital trunking help

Hello. Thanks for looking at this post.

Im going to buy a scanner capable of receiving digital trunking signals that all the public service entities in Finney County Kansas recently switched over to. What would be a good scanner make/model to choose from? I know the older Radio Shack/Realistic scanners and the way they operate like the back of my hand, but dont have a clue as to anything that takes a computer to program. Im also open to other brands as well.

Also, if I wanted to monitor just one or two of the agencies here (Fire and EMS for example) how would I go about getting the talk group info for the specific groups?

Im completely clueless, so any info would be a tremendous help.

Noticed the Radio Shack Digitals are both (mobile 20-197 and handheld 20-106) on sale this week for $100 off ($399.99).... I've really enjoyed both of mine and bought them when they were on sale like this. I use Don Starr's WIN scanner programming software (Software for RadioShack PRO-series (PRO-92, 93, 95, 96, 97, 99, 163, 164, 106, 197) and GRE PSR-series (PSR-500, 600, 300, 400) scanners) and just love it. It even interfaces directly with RR.com to download frequencies and talkgroups directly into the scanner. Cost is about still $35 I believe and requires a USB programming cable ($34.99, 20-047) I checked the Garden City store and they don't appear to have any in stock as of last night, but you can go in and have them order one direct from the warehouse for you at no additional cost. Ask them to do a "NMQ order" (stands for No Model Quainity). No shipping for standard ground (takes about three to four days from Ft. Worth usually) and you still have 30 days to return it if you don't like it.....

Thanks JR. Ive got your number now so if I need any additional help I will be sure to give you a call. I dug around enough to find everything I needed for the basic talk groups.

The one thing I don't have is an actual physical copy of all the talk groups that are available. For instance, GCFD has its main talkgroup, the rural talk group, tactical channels, inspections, and training talkgroups. Most of them aren't being utilized yet, but it would be nice to have them available.
