Exclamation The Big Snow is a Coming

One's in the Area have your scanners & weather Radios at there Ready as were going to get a little dose of wintry wet weather.. some places could get a foot and if the wind is really strong it might be a big factor of the storm as well.. Ra

The wind is blowing in PA and it's cold enough to freeze the balls on a brass monkey.

Keep your brass monkey warm 'cause this storm is a-comin' your way next.

It closed all the interstates in the Kansas City area at least in spots along with both airports. I've heard lots of activity from my county sheriff (Leavenworth Co.) but very little from KHP this morning. The KDOT plows were parked in the lot in Lawrence apparently waiting for the snow to stop.

When its done with you, it's coming for me..This will be the 3rd sunday in a row that has a storm attatched to it. Around here--1 inch of snow will create no less than 20 mva's. Thats within a 30 square mile radious.

You are right; I remember them from the 50's--A few of the rich people had them at the start of their long sidewalks as a ornate light fixture.
I have a hunch the monkey wasn't why they have disappeared.

Summary of the eRumor
This piece of alleged history explains that in the olden days of sailing ships, cannon balls were stacked on the decks on brass plates called "monkeys." The plates had indentions in them that held the balls on the bottoms of the stacks. Brass, however, expands and contracts with the temperature and if it got cold enough, the cannon balls could fall...giving real foundation to the phrase "cold enough to freeze the balls off a brass monkey!"
