Default I-70 across the state

Hi guys,

Next week I will be driving eastbound across Kansas on my way to Illinois.

Im interested in a list of which trunked sites and/or conventional sites I will need to monitor the KHP over the entire route. Any clues about the system they use for their unit numbers would also be appreciated.

What part of Illinois are you headed towards? Just to let you know, if you're going to be in the southern/south-central part (along I70), the Illinois State Police are all on Starcom-21, a P25 Digital system (sounds very good). The local agencies in that part of the state are a hodgepodge of conventional and analog trunked systems.

Sorry I don't have any information for Kansas.

Hey shipmate,

Thanks for your service. There are no deep drafts in the wild Colorado even though the Gunnison dumps into it in your town. Ya must be on recruiting duty.

None the less, I visit my home state frequently and travel I-70 at times.
Starting with Sherman, the first 4 counties are conventional then Ellis/Hays is Mot II analog. Then the next 7 counties are conventional however, in Riley the Ft has an EDACS system and nearby Manhattan has a Mot Hybrid analog system followed by the Shawnee/Topeka Mot II analog, Douglas/Lawrence Mot II analog, Leavenworth conventional and finishing with Wyandotte/KCKS Mot II Analog.

KSICS Digital interop will start in Saline County but you should be able to pick it up in Ellsworth County through the rest of the state. State PD prior to Saline are conventional and some 800 mHz on this KHP page. http://beta.radioreference.com/apps/db/?aid=587

I have Win96 and some ARC250 files for Ellsworth county through St Louis on I-70.

Drive safe and enjoy the trip.

Im headed for my wife's hometown of Ullin. The STARCOM page will probably keep me informed of the local area. I wont even be crossing into Illinois until we cross over at Cape Girardeau.

Ahoy Frank.

No recruiting duty for me. I served 9 years in the USCGR in California. Good duty and lots of experience while still working a civilian job at the same time. I would recommend the USCG and USCGR to anyone.

Im not familiar at all with the counties I-70 passes through before Salina. Can you give me a rundown of which conventional repeaters Ill need between the Colorado state line and Salina? I wont really be listening to other things off the road because we wont be lingering in any one place at a time, so Ill probably just stick with the KHP.

Counties in below code are in the order of your route.
Those counties with None (other then Trego) are all on the KSICS Digital system. Nearly all turnpike traffic is on KSICS also.
Apparently Trego county receives off either Quinter or Ellis towers.

Code:
868.9250	265 DPL Halford (Thomas County)
866.6875	631 DPL Edson (Sherman County)
868.6125	351 DPL Quinter (Gove County)
None Trego County
867.9375	162 DPL Ellis (Ellis County)
868.8625	226 DPL Russell (Russell County)
868.6125	051 DPL Ellsworth (Ellsworth County)
None Saline County
866.6875	065 DPL Dillon (Dickinson County)
None Geary County

Good list- but the Eskridge Tower has been updated to the digital trunking system. Once you hit Wabaunsee County on east everything is digital. Don't bother with the lowband stuff- they dropped it years ago and even the turnpike cars have lost they VHF-High band radios recently.

On the digital system monitor the following talkgroups:

1216 Troop B CH 1
1306 Turnpike Authority North Dispatch
1307 Turnpike Authority North Car 2 Car

When you are around Topeka the Troopers still work on the Shawnee County / Topeka Analog System instead of digital- the same thing when you get to Kansas City and leave the Turnpike they work on the Wyandotte County / Kansas City analog system.

Thanks very much guys. Let me say that this Kansas forum is very responsive and friendly. You probably all know how preachy some of the forums can be. You guys are what these forums were meant to be.
