• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

I don't any of the Kenwood commercial portables can be made to FPP. The cables are cheap on Ebay for these radios and the software is usually available for download if you know where to look.

If you prefer to have licensed legal version, Kenwood will sell it to you.

On another note, can this radio do two tone decode, while having an LTR system in the radio?

I believe that "TEST" mode must also be enabled from within the software.
Assuming that is the case, then here you go:

Press and hold both the "Lamp" and the "D/A" buttons while turning the
radio on until "SEL" is displayed. Press "D/A" again and "CH 1" is
displayed. Now press the "PTT" button and either the current receive
frequency will be displayed or if nothing has been programmed into that
channel, you'll get "---------". Turning the channel knob forward or
backward with move you though allowable frequencies. To move quicker, press
the "Lamp" while turning the channel knob. When the received frequency is
correct, press the "PTT" button and now you can program in the received
CTCSS/DCS tone, if desired. Press the "LO" key and the initial CTCSS value
of 67.0 is displayed. Press "LO" a second time and the initial DCS value of
023N is displayed. Turning the channel knob either way will change the
setting to your choice. Press "PTT" and now your at the transmit frequency.
Change it and the transmit tone as done for the received ones. Next you
decided if this channel will be available for scanning, if not select "DEL"
by turning the channel selector knob. Press "PTT" and now you decide if you
want "Busy Channel Lockout" turned on or off. Choose by turning the channel
selector knob. Next you choose the maximum power setting "H" or "L". This
setting will depend on what maximum power setting you set with the software
when you wrote the "Test" and "Self Programming" modes the radio. If you
enabled High their then "H" here will give you 4 watts and "L" would give
you 1 watt. If you chose "M", then "H" and "L" will give you 2/1 watts and
if "L" was chosen, then you'll get "1/1". You can't get more than what you
chose using the software. Next is the "Beat Shift", I don't know what this
does as I don't use it. Pressing the "PTT" will either take you to choosing
"Wide/Narrow" if you have a TK-350G or will take you to Channel 2 where you
start all over.

Turn the radio off and while pressing "Lamp" and "D/A" until "SEL" is
displayed. Now press "TA". First you set the frequency configuration.
"UHF1" covers "450-470MHz"; "UHF2" covers "470-490MHz"; "UHF3" covers
"490-512MHz" and "UHF4" covers "406-430MHz". The 1, 2, 3 or 4 needs to
correspond with the last number at the end of the FCC ID number on the
label on the back of your radio. Pressing the "PTT" button you can now
choose to use the Battery Save feature. Your choices are "S-Short",
"M-Medium", "L-Long" or "OFF", your choice.Next you choose if you want to
the "Time-out Timer", you have choices between "30 and 300" seconds, or you
can turn it off. Next you decide if you want the radio to scan when you
press the "SCN" button. Next the "Delete/Add" feature is chosen. I use
D/A2, this feature allows you to press the "D/A" button to Delete/Add"
channels from being scanned when "SCN" is pressed. Next you can choose to
be able to use a channel set for repeater use in the "Talk Around" mode
bypassing the repeater. Next comes "Power Set", I don't use this and am not
sure exactly what it does.Next is the "Monitor" mode. I use "SQL" and this
gives me a "Momentary Monitor" mode when I press the Monitor button. If
this isn't what you want, you'll have to try the different settings. Then
last item is "Beep" mode. I have mine turned off as I don't like tones when
I press buttons. Enabling it will, I believe, let the radio beep on power
up. That's it.

While each of my TK-350's has the self programming feature enabled, I find
it much easier to make programming changes with my computer and the
software. But this will get you started if you don't want to program with
the software. Have fun!
