Default KPG-48 / TK-3101 question

I've just added a couple of TK-3101's to my fleet yesterday. I've blown off the dust from my Win98 laptop that I've saved just for these 'special occasions.'

I'm having no problem programming the radios, but there's an option in the software for 'Bank A' and 'Bank B.'

Do these radios have two seperate programming 'banks?' And if so, is there some method for the radio to switch between the banks (possibly for a total of 30 channels)? These radios are pretty simplistic, I'm wondering if this is just a un-used feature in the software or something.

Thanks,
Nick

Yes. There are 2 banks for a total of 30 channels in the TK-3101. If memory serves, there is a toggle in the software program to allow you to populate each bank. When you download to the radio, both banks are downloaded.

To change banks on the TK-3101 radio:

1. With radio OFF, hold PTT and MON buttons down, then turn unit ON.
2. Wait for led light to come on indicating it is in programming mode, then release PTT & MON.
3. Press & release PTT to enter Bank selection (low pitch "boop-boop").
4. Press PTT again and listen for high pitch beeps. One "beep" indicates radio is on Bank A; 2 short "beeps" indicates radio is set to Bank B.
5. Press PTT repeatedly until you set radio to desired bank (as indicated by the beeps).
6. SAVE and conclude programming by pressing MON and hearing "boop-boop" tone.
7. Turn off radio, then turn it back on for normal use on selected bank.

This the best I can describe it...hope it makes sense.

I use one bank for the FRS/GMRS simplex, the factory default program, and the other for repeater use. Yes, you can program the TK-3101 for repeater operation. These really are nifty radios...I have 4.

Thanks Al, that's awesome! These little guys are such a bad radio after all! Perfect for rentals I'd imagine.

You're very welcome!

They are indeed awesome, and I think highly under-rated 2 watt tough little radios.

Enjoy!

Hi Al

I also have a pair or TK 3101s that I would love to program for some local repeaters. Was this a hard process once you have the cable and software?
