Default Tk-5210 k7

Hello,

I purchased a new TK-5210-K7 (64 channels, version 2 hardware) and am unable to read the transceiver with version 5.0 of the KPG-95D programming software. I get the usual "Read error...check your hardware version, com port" message. Interestingly, I am able to extract the transceiver info (model number, serial number, etc.) using the Tools>Transceiver Information menu command. I don't know what the current version of KPG-95D is, but I'm guessing mine is too old for my version 2/K7 model. The K7 version does not appear in the drop-down model menu. Version 5 of the software was released November 22, 2006. The K7 versions were introduced October 22, 2007. I am using authentic Kenwood cables, the same cables which work fine with my TK-2180/3180. Does anyone have a thought on this? Does anyone know the current version of KPG-95D? I have seen references to v5.4.1. I know it is very pricey, and I'm not sure where to purchase it.

Thanks in advance for any info or suggestions,

Larry, WA6DNP / WPVL904

Larry,

You will want R5.4 FPU. You can purchase at your local kenwood dealer. It's around $525.00 IIRC.

What's are the differences between K2 and K7 versions? Just channel capacity (512 and 64 correspondingly)?

Or someting else?

It's not the same as I stated in my question?

P.S.
K7 model also is not compatible with AES / DES encryption options.
