Default Kenwood TK-830 Bonk Sound on Power On

When I power on my Kenwood TK-830 it shows channel 1 on the display as normal but I cannot change channels and it has a constant "bonk" sound. It has been unpowered for a few years. Any suggestions? Has it lost its programming?

One of the mods will yell at you for accidently posting this in the Motorola forum, but what has happened is that you only have 1 channel programmed in the radio.

You could try resetting the radio by putting it into programming mode. We found this works with some units that appear to be "locked up". Power down the radio by the on/off button, press and hold the first button to the right of the channel selector, then power up the radio. The display should show "P" or "Prog" telling you that you are in the prog mode. Then power back off and on. Good Luck.

Default Kenwood TK-830 bonk sound

Turns out one of the power leads (there are 2 leads for the 13.8VDC) had slipped out of the butt connection. Repaired this and the bonk sound stoppped. Turns out the 2 leads are important and the radio knows when one is missing.
