Default Tk280

I have some freq's that do not use PL tones in my radio. According to what I am reading these 2 RR channels are CSQ. How do I program this portable so that static does not come blaring across everytime I get near any type of electronic device? I know it can be done their radios never crack open. If I drop it in the charger the static goes crazy! HELP!!!!

TK280 RADIO.
KPG 49DK SOFTWARE.

P.S. The channels are not set for data.

I am familiar with this option. They are not set as data channels. The Reason for pl tones is to keep the squelch from opening up with unwanted birdie freq's. Without a pl tone I do not know how to prevent this. I can program the radio with a pl tone but the squelch will not open during a radio transmission. Therefore I will miss what they are saying unless they are 10 feet away. I am familiar with programming, just never had to set a radio channel that used CSQ. I have always had a pl/dpl tone to associate with the freq.

You will need to bump up your squelch setting. Go to "PROGRAM" > "TEST MODE". Scroll to squelch and double click. Increase value maybe 10 at a time and check until RX stays quiet.
Stay away from flouresent lights, computers and cats with long hair.

Ok, Thanks I will give that a shot. I have problems in the test mode due to running the crappiest OS that microsoft has yet to design. Test mode does not like vista. Gotta try to get my XP tower back up so that I do not have this problem. When I hit test mode vista likes to lock up. I have to have a good charge on the cell phone too. Cell charging and bluetooth make this thing go crazy!

You can enable front panel tuning in the data file, then set the sql on it from the front in test mode. There is a setting for both narrow, and wide. Be very careful NOT to set anything else in the test mode. I'll have to hunt down a good guide for the test mode.

I have only adjusted the sensitivity and the squelch. It is a pain because I may not get stuff from further away now. Is this the only way to do this? E-mail me cnicrails@yahoo.com if you find a tech guide to test mode. I would like to utilize this and maybe fine tune the radio a little better.

If you touched the sensitivity, you need to have a service monitor or RF generator to set that correctly. I'll see what I can find and email it.

The RF generator was my laptop. I just bumped it up a point or two until the squelch closed. I did not bump it up a whole bunch. I bumped up the squelch a little bit too. I remember what it was set at so I can always put it back in case that was the wrong thing to do.
