Default kenwood ID

Hey i have a kenwood TK-280 and 290.. the ambulance service i work for uses Motorola radios and have an ID on them that give unit nunbers i think its DTMF format.. is there any way to program my radio to send my unit number on the radio to there display? or is there any Kenwood that will? hope yall can help thanks

Yes you can if it's DTMF. But when you listen to the channel it would sound like a phone dialing a number at the beginning of every transmission, so most likely they are using MDC1200 which sounds like a squawk at the beginning, end or both of each transmission. If they are using MDC1200 you need to see if your TK-280 or 290 will support it, if memory serves right I don't think the TK-280 supports MDC1200 without an optional board I don't know about the 290.

Yeah it sounds like a phone dial... is there any way to speed it up it take forever just to do 3 numbers

Yes you can change the digit timing. On the 270 (not sure on the 280 or 290) it is under the Edit tab and then DTMF. You should see the digit time, inter digit time etc.
