The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I just got a Kenwood TK-2312 with our Fire Department and whenever the someone transmits with a MDC ID the radio wont reset automatically back to scan. Does anyone have a solution to this?

I have the 3312 with a similar problem. When my radio decodes MDC it won't reset. I have other kenwoods that I use MDC with and I don't have this problem.

3312/2312 issue

I have the same problem with my 2312. I have changed the time time previously to 2 sec. but yet it still will stall with the ID displayed. As soon as I would mash any button it would show the channel that the ID came across, and then re-start scanning. Tonight I changed the call alert type to 'none' from 'alert with voive'. Hopefully this will solve any problems. Anyone else been able to remedy this?

Is/Has anyone had any other problems with the 2312 (V.2.30), regarding the MDC? I obviously have had the scan issue, but now I'm having a audio issue. Maybe someone could offer a suggestion I'm overlooking. The MDC is on and appears to be working: ID comes up on another radio, I can hear the sidetone/proceed tone, and I can hear the MDC audio come across (BOT)..... but no voice is being transmitted. I can turn the MDC off and the radio transmitts normally. I have the exact same settings in a different Kenwood portable and it works fine. Cannot figure out why it breaks squelch, transmitts the tones, but won't Tx any voice across????

There isn't anything in the software that I can see that would cause the problem you are seeing. These series radios just have a number of bugs when it comes to MDC operation. You might try fireandems's suggestion and try to get an earlier firmware version.

I have the mobile version of this radio, the TK-7360 (v1.10) and have encountered another problem related to MDC and priority scanning. When MDC is enabled in a zone, and monitoring a repeated channel that does not use MDC, it occasionally seems to detect the PL reverse burst (or turn-off code) of the radios talking into the repeater, and stops checking the priority channel until scan resumes. Scan resumes as normal and priority scan also works as normal until the next time it happens.

That is odd. Maybe your right about the bugs. Like I said, turn the MDC ID off, works fine, back on, cannot hear any audio. I have the MDC on a 5210 and a 7180 and have had no issues whatsoever, thankfully. I may try the earlier firmware in the future. Thanks.

I have a few mobile 7360s with the mdc staying on the screen and auto reset was set at 2 seconds. Changed out the firmware and it works like a charm now.

What version firmware are you running now? I have v1.10 and while I never had the same problem as everyone else with the scan locking up completely, the issue where it stops checking the priority channel could be a big problem for anyone who can't miss traffic on that channel. As with AE106's issue, disabling MDC resolves the problem.

To AE106: Try changing the PTT-ID to End of Transmission. I can't remember if Kenwood radios mute the microphone while sending PTT-IDs, but if they do, it could be that another bug in the firmware keeps it from unmuting after the ID is sent.

I have found you need to go into the MDC setting and check the LED check box and then set the timer to what ever you want. In other kenwood radios they are checked by default

I am having this same problem. Where do you find the that box that you are talking about? I do not see it anywhere.

To let everyone know, the problem with MDC1200 and scanning is a conflict between firmware and programing software. The older programing software didn't have the option for the Auto Reset LCD. The easiest way to correct the problem is to use KPG-134D V2.32 or higher. Upgrading the firmware in the radio is not a bad idea also. I have seen and tested that if your radio has a newer firmware and you are programming it with an older version of KPG-134D you will run into this issue.

For reference the current version of KPG-134DN is V2.33 it was released in December 2012.
Current firmware is v2.32 it was release in October 2012.

actually- The issue is a result of not checking the box. The Firmware that was released Prior added enhanced MDC features. The problem will still exsist regardless of firmware if you dont check the box
and if you use your radio for ham radio at all you do not want to go to the KPG-134DN. DN software is Narrow only
