You should not have to mod any thing inside the radio. it is all done in the software.

Be advised that there where two models of this radio, the tkr820 AND THE tkr820N, The N says that
it is able to be narrow banded on the 12.5kz frequencys.

Look at the radio data plate and see what it says, then connect to the computer and read the radio then you should see a option for W-N. change to N and your good to go.

I have a TKR-820 thats been modified to do narrowband but can't find the programmer anywhere, anyone have one laying around they'd like to sell?

Since alot of my local ham guys use public safety stuff we are going to put it on 70cm narrowband for a ham repeater.

You do not need a "programmer" for this radio, just the correct software and a cable is all you need.

Can find the cable on e-bay and maybe the software also.

AND, why are you planning on doing a ham narrow band repeated? The ham, aircraft and marine frequency's are not required to go to narrow band.

Because this repeater has been modified for narrowband and is now an 820N, I know its not required however this area has very few people that has the capabilities to get any repeater on the air so while it is a narrowband repeater on 440 mhz its better then nothing and I only have $50 bucks in it so we're going to use it and try to get some activity out of it.

The TKR-820 DOES require a "programmer", the KPT-20, or KPT-50. There is also older DOS software (KPG-21 IIRC) that will work with the KPT-50 to make things a bit easier for some. The KPT-50 is a very easy to use programmer, and it is much better than lugging a laptop.

If needed I can program the TKR-x20's, PM for details.

Does the TKR-820/720 offer CW ID?

there's a lot you apparently don't know.

There's no need to offer a "guess"; because out within cyberspace.... there are people that don't need to guess.

There is a specific Kenwood programmer needed. The software you see listed on the internet must be run with the KPT-50 handheld programmer. It's not "just a cable and a PC program" In reality, it's a cable, PC, and a mfgr specific programmer.
The other programmer is the KPT-20, it's a standalone device - and does not require connection to a computer.

uhh... D-Star is narrowband; and it's ham.

100% incorrect.

The TKR-720 and 820 are not "software" narrowbandable.

It's a hardware mod; using a Kenwood "Z-Kit"
