Problem with my TK-380

ok i dont know much about radios and programming, but i know i have an issue. My radio will not receive or transmit. It worked before i cloned my buddy's radio into mine. I know the frequencies are correct.

it does not receive at all
when i go to transmit it is one long solid beep (not like the out of range beeps)

Please help? is my radio fried? how can i fix it?

Do you have the software? Maybe something in the cloning process caused an error due to the events you described above. I would try to read the radio and if that is a success, try to write the file back to it. Also, are both radios a version 1 or 2...I don't know if you can clone a version 2 to a 1 or vice-versa and get away with it or not.

i have tried a few times to read the data and re-write it, no luck, reads the radio fine, when it writes to it i get an error saying some 2.0 features will not be available. the radio i cloned is a 2.0, my radio is a 1.0... Does the symptoms i listed above mean it could possibly be fried? or just an error?

Now you know why it is so important to verify that you are cloning the exact same version. I do not believe your radio os fried. Just re-program it yourself with a blank programming set (codeplug) and write the new set to the radio. It should solve your problem.

You can not cross swap a 1 to a 2 or a 2 to a 1. At this point you have to use your correct software, (it will work with both) and read the v2 radio.

Save that data, then open the program again, (you will have two screens up), read the v1 radio, then go to the saved data highlite all, do a copy paste.

This allows you to build the correct data in the v 1 radio with out having to type it all in.

How do i wipe the radio and start from scratch? any suggestions?

Start the software, connect the radio, open a blank file in the software and write it to the radio. Once done the radio chould show 'unprogrammed' when it reboots.

I am now sitting in front of my computer. To create a blank file to load into the radio launch the software. once it is running connect your radio to the programming cable. then go to the "Model" menu. click on "Model Information" select the TK-380 and make sure you have the correct band split, wether it has a full keypad and conventional or trunking. once all that information is correct ckick "OK". you will get a warning that says "Frequency Data Will Be Cleared" click "OK". This will bring up a blank page ready for data to be entered. now turn on your radio and click the "Write" button(computer with a yellow arrow pointed to the right) there will be a pop-up screen "Write To Radio" click "OK". data will upload to the radio, and once done the radio will power cycle on its own and should show "UNPROGRAMMED" on the display once it finishes booting up.

Once done you can now read the radio, enter the frequency data and then re-write to the radio and all should be good to go.
