Default TK-840 Narrowband Conversion

Has anyone narrowbanded a TK-840 by replacing the crystal and ceramic filters & TCXO? Found this kit mentioned in another post: Narrow Band Filters I have the installation instructions if anyone would like to see them.

My dealer will program & align one but says the conversion is too costly. What's a ballpark figure to have it done? Any value to the radios without the conversion?

$35 bucks for IF filters per your link. I'd have to charge a minimum of $110 labor to convert and align. Since the value of the radio is less than C note now, it's your call.

Now for legalese. Even if this radio is properly narrow banded, it's FCC certification has not changed and therefore would still be illegal to operate after the first of the year.

Oddly, the Kenwood kits come with a type acceptance label.
The radio falls into that grey area since it was available wide or narrow from the factory, and there is a "factory" conversion kit.
I've done the conversion, and its not too bad to do.
