Question NX-300 2-tone replacement for NXDN

Our organization just got a grant and we have upgraded our remaining TK-3160s to NX-300s (a handful with 12-key keypads). Along with this change we are switching to digital very-narrow. We do most of the radio programming ourselves, and I have been working through a few difficulties. We used to use a side-key set to 2-tone for our dispatch. Now with NXDN you can't do 2-tone. What feature do you recommend to replace this?

Any audio based signalling scheme (with the exception of DTMF when generated by the NXDN protocol) will be trashed through the digital vocoder and therefore be unusable. This includes two-tone, fleetsync, and mdc1200 and are not available to the digital mode.

For selective call purposes, you can use NXDN or DTMF for the digital mode.

Sorry, two things I should have mentioned. I personally know "enough to be dangerous" but not necessarily how to do everything or all the terminology. Bottom line what are we talking about to get a configuration working?

NexEdge will allow you to do alerts using the radio ID while in digital mode.
Under the <EDIT> tab, select <NXDN> and <GROUP ID>
For ID's, one of the options is ALL. You can use that to do text messaging and voice calls to your other radios. You'll need to set up an alert tone for the group messages. You will also need to set up one of the buttons to send the group messages. It's kind of hard to explain all this stuff in a short post, let me know if you can't find the info you are looking for and I can e-mail you some documents that would help.

I would love to see the documentation for this. I see some of what you mean, but every extra piece of info is helpful!

mmckenna, I'll step on your toes a little. Here's a couple of links to PDF manuals. Look them over and see if you can find what you are trying to accomplish. Chime back if you have questions or want specifics.

And please tell us what exactly you're trying to do that the old two-tone scheme provided.

It's interesting that your dealer is not helping you with this. We routinely set up NXDN alerting for our customers. I can help you set it up if you can send me a copy of your program file. You will not hear any tones come across the radio but they will play a alert tone & flash the led as well as scroll a message across the display.
